1st class degree bonanza!

I wrote back in July last year of the sordid levels of grade inflation that has been running unchecked in UK universities over the last few years (44% rise in firsts over a five year period) and they are back in the news today with further giveaways.

In 2012-2013, when the higher fees were introduced a mere 18% of students got a 1st, (although compare that to 1994 when only 7% did you can see the insidious crawl has been going on for a while) but last year 2016-17 saw the number of students being handed a first is at an all time peak of 26%. 75% of students are now in receipt of either a 2:1 or a 1st which hardly smacks of academic rigour.

Anyway check out the previous blog here – https://edducan.com/2017/07/20/the-great-grade-giveaway-like-beads-for-boobs-but-with-1st-class-degrees/

Like a pincer movement too many schools are still promoting universities as the most desirable outcome at the same as fees rise and the intrinsic value of the degree is lessened exponentially. This should not be allowed to continue unchecked.

I remain grumpy and unforgiving on this shameful matter…

The value of degrees is under threat as long as the grade inflation continues.
